The sunshine blue Soldier Crab is quite distinctive with its small, round, blue body on long jointed legs with purple stripes. You can often see armies of them marching across the tidal mudflats at the mouth of Gore Creek.
But be warned! They are very shy and beat a hasty retreat when threatened in any way, leaving behind a trail of sandy pellets from their discarded foraging – often the only evidence they’ve been there.
Bob Campbell Oval, or Gore Creek Reserve, is a little slice of heaven on Sydney Harbour. It sits at the bottom of a creek that winds up through Lane Cove and is one of the last remaining natural creeks on the harbour.
